ABSTRACT A flushing mechanism and method of reducing the flushing volume of a cistern A method of reducing the volume flushed from a toilet cistern during a full flush. A forcing means is provided part way along a tube connected to a valve means of a toilet cistern. As the water level in the cistern lowers about the forcing means it applies downward force which closes the valve means at a predetermined water level. In this way the maximum volume of water flushed from a cistern may be varied for any cistern without reducing the maximum head of pressure available.
