An FM digital transmitter comprising a digital signal processor for receiving digital audio data comprising a series of primary digital values occurring at a primary data rate and representing waveform samples. The digital signal processor is programmed to generate a sub-series of intermediate digital values temporally between each consecutive pair of primary digital values, calculate a series of composite digital values based on the primary digital values and the intermediate digital values, with the composite digital values occurring at a processing data rate. Alternatively, the digital signal processor is programmed to calculate a sub-series of intermediate digital values temporally between each consecutive pair of the primary digital values and combine the primary digital values and the intermediate digital values into a series of composite digital values, the composite digital values occurring at a processing data rate, and to digitally modulate the composite digital values to thereby produce a series of digital RF values. There are means for receiving the digital RF values and producing a corresponding RF signal; means for filtering the RF signal; means for amplifying the filtered RF signal; and means for transmitting the amplified RF signal.
