A spring mattress is described that uses a number of elastic springs, distributed spatially in a predetermined pattern, with sufficiently varied configurations, obtained by cutting and hollowing out an initial sheet of foam material of an appropriate thickness. The configuration chosen produces recessed portions on one or more sides of the spring elements, of varying sizes and depths, and protruding portions on one or more sides, likewise of varying thicknesses and projection distances. The springs forming the mattress are in one piece at their lower ends with the remaining continuous laminar portion of the original sheet, and, in an alternative version, they can be joined at their upper ends to a continuous or discontinuous laminar sheet, to which they are fixed by gluing or using a similar operation.
