A B S T R A C T A wet/dry cleaner includes a container, and a suction unit for drawing air or liquids into the container. A valve port is provided between the suction unit and the container, and a float valve member is guided in the container to engage the valve port when the liquid in the container reaches a given level. The float valve and valve port are surrounded by a meshed screen within the container, in order to inhibit the flow of any appreciable quantity of foam into the valve port.
