A phenolic foam having exceptional absorption capacities for pollutants such as hydrocarbons and other substances is described. The foam is hydrophobic and is capable of absorbing such substances in amounts up to 72 times its own weight. It is the reaction product of a resol and a cross-linking agent made of linear and/or cyclic, partially or completely sulphonated, phenolic oligomers, in the presence of a surfactant and a swelling agent, and, optionally, of a colouring agent and stabilisers. A method for making the foam, an installation for implementing the method and a use of said foam are also described.

L'invention a trait à une mousse phénolique ayant des propriétés exceptionnelles d'absorption de matières polluantes telles que les hydrocarbures, et d'autres substances. La mousse est hydrophobe et absorbe ces substances jusqu'à 72 fois son poids. Elle est le produit de réaction d'un résol et d'un réticulant composé d'oligomères phénoliques linéaires et/ou cycliques, sulfonés tout ou partiellement, en présence d'un surfactif et d'un agent gonflant et, éventuellement, d'un colorant et des stabilisants. On décrit également un procédé de fabrication de la mousse, une installation pour la mise en oeuvre du procédé, et une utilisation de la mousse.
