ABSTRACT A composition of matter comprising the reaction product of a bitumen and a fatty oil, e.g., asphalt and castor oil, and a process of preparation therefor. The reaction product is combined with a polyhydroxy compound and a polyisocyanate, and allowed to react in the pre- sence of a blowing agent, such as water, to form a foamed polymeric material. A particularly suitable blowing agent comprises a mixture of dibutylphthalate and ethanol, the use of which obviates the necessity for a surfactant in the reaction mix. Preferred foamed polymeric products can be cured to materials which are strong and tough but which even after they are fully cured are soluble in molten asphalt. Such foamed polymeric products are particularly suitable for use as a construction material for shipping pallets for roofing tar.
