Articles, particularly containers and packaging materials, having a starch-bound cellular matrix (8) reinforced with substantially uniformly dispersed fibers (21) and methods for manufacturing the articles. High strength articles that have adequate flexibility and toughness immediately or very shortly after being demolded without the need for subsequent conditioning are molded from compositions having a starch-based binder and fibers (21) that are uniformly dispersed by means of a high yield stress fluid fraction within the starch-based composition. Such articles can replace articles presently made from conventional materials like paper, paperboard, polystyrene, plastic, or other organic-based materials and have special utility in the mass-production of containers, particularly food and beverage containers.

Articles, plus particulièrement contenants et matériaux d'emballage présentant une matrice cellulaire liée à de l'amidon (8) et renforcée par des fibres (21) dispersées de manière sensiblement homogène et leurs procédés de fabrication. On moule, sans conditionnement supplémentaire, des articles très résistants, présentant une souplesse et une ténacité appropriées immédiatement ou très peu de temps après leur démoulage à partir de compositions comprenant un liant à base d'amidon et des fibres (21) réparties de manière homogène au moyen d'une fraction fluide de contrainte à haut rendement dans la composition à base d'amidon. Ces articles peuvent remplacer les articles actuellement fabriqués dans des matériaux classiques tels que le papier, le carton, le polystyrène, le plastique ou d'autres matériaux à base organique et sont particulièrement utiles dans la production de masse de contenants, et plus particulièrement de contenants pour aliments et boissons.
