ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed herein is a seat structure for a vehicle having a frame and a cargo-carrying floor supported from the vehicle frame, which seat structure includes a seat portion supported on the vehicle frame forwardly of the floor, a backrest portion carrying a backrest cushion, and a pair of laterally spaced stationary bracket members supporting the backrest portion rearwardly of and adjacent the seat portion for pivotal movement of the backrest portion relative to the seat portion between a generally vertical, raised position wherein the backrest cushion is located to serve as a backrest for an occupant sitting on the seat portion and a generally horizontal, lowered position adjacent the cargo-carrying floor wherein the backrest cushion can serve as a passenger seat. The backrest portion is pivotally connected to the bracket members by pins which are located on the lower portion of the backrest portion and pivotally and slidably protrude through a slot provided in the lower portion of each bracket member. The backrest portion is releasably held in the raised position by its own weight by projections which are located on the lower end portion thereof and are received in a U-shaped notch pro- vided on the upper portion of each bracket member. The backrest portion can be moved to the lowered position by lifting it vertically to the bracket members to retract the projections from the notches after which it can be pivoted to the lowered position.
