ABSTRACT A foldable mattress includes a foam body having a generally planar surface to be supported on the carriage of an adjustable bed and an uppersupport surface on which an individual lies. The foam body is partitioned into a head supporting zone, a foot supporting zone and a mid-section supporting zone. The head and foot supporting zones are formed of the same one type of foam material while the mid-section supporting zone is formed of at least another type of foam material of higher resiliency than the one type of foam material. At least one transverse insert formed of foam material generally more resilient than the one type of foam material extends across the width of the body to facilitate folding of the mattress about a fold line extending along the central longitudinal axis of the insert.
