An improved folder apparatus includes a first folder assembly which forms a first fold in sheet material along the path of movement of the sheet material. A second folder assembly forms a second fold in the sheet material in a direction extending transversely to the path of movement of the sheet material. A third folder assembly forms a third fold in the sheet material with the first and third folds extending along the path of movement of the sheet material through the third folder assembly and the second fold at a leading edge portion of the sheet material. During the forming of the three folds, the sheet material is continuously moved through the folder assemblies without stopping. The third folder assembly includes an array of upper and lower tapes. The array of tapes tapers from a wide inlet portion of the third folder assembly toward a discharge portion of a third folder assembly. The array of upper and lower tapes maintains areas on opposite sides of the third fold flat in a horizontal plane while the sheet material is gripped by the tapes. A stacker assembly stacks the folded signatures received from the third folder assembly in a stack with major side surface areas in an upright orientation and with the third fold downward against a supporting surface.
L?invention concerne une plieuse améliorée comprenant une première unité de pliage qui forme un premier pli dans un matériau en feuille le long du sens de déplacement de la feuille. Une deuxième unité de pliage forme un second pli dans la feuille dans le sens transversal au sens de déplacement de la feuille. Une troisième unité de pliage forme un troisième pli dans la feuille, le premier et le troisième plis s'étendant le long du sens de déplacement de la feuille dans la troisième unité de pliage et le deuxième pli se trouvant du côté du bord d'attaque de la feuille. Au cours de la formation des trois plis, la feuille se déplace en continu dans les unités de pliage. La troisième unité de pliage comprend un faisceau de bandes supérieures et inférieures. Ce faisceau de bandes rétrécit depuis une entrée de grandes dimensions dans la troisième unité vers une sortie de la même unité. Le faisceau de bandes supérieures et inférieures maintient des parties des côtés opposés du troisième pli à plat, dans un plan horizontal, tandis que la feuille est accrochée par les bandes. Une empileuse empile les signatures pliées reçues de la troisième unité de pliage, les surfaces latérales principales ayant une orientation verticale et le troisième pli étant orienté vers le bas contre une aurface d'appui.
