ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A folding chair has a framework of two pivot frames joined at the center by means of a pivot and fitting one inside the other. Each frame has an upper supporting frame member for a seat, a lower frame member and two side frame members that form the legs of the chair. The seat is attached to the upper frame element of the outer pivot frame so as to be able to swing into a horizontal and a vertical end position. The frame elements have extensions that project upwards above the seat. A backrest is attached to these extensions in such a manner as to be able to pivot. The two side frame members of the outer pivot frame and a side frame member of the inner pivot frame of the folding frame have extension pieces that project upwards above the circular seat. A semicircular backrest that matches the shape of the seat is mounted on the ends of the extension pieces of the frame members of the outer pivot frame such that it can swing into a horizontal and a vertical end position. The end of the extension piece of the side frame member of the inner pivot frame is supported in an arc-shaped guide in or on the backrest by means of a slide, such that it can slide through an angle of 90°.
