The invention relates to a folding former of a folder for a press, in particular a web-fed newspaper press, having a former nose and having a pivot point or a pivot axis, it being possible for the folding former to be pivoted about the pivot point or the pivot axis, changing a former inclination angle (.beta.), in order to displace the former nose horizontally, and it being possible for a former spread angle to be changed as a function of the former inclination angle (.beta.). According to the invention, in order to align the outer edges of sections to be folded in the folding former, the former inclination angle (.beta.) and the former spread angle can be set as a function of the number of pages in the sections.
