A folding vacuum cleaner configuration is disclosed. The vacuum cleaner configuration has a foot with a nozzle opening defined therein and a link pivotally connected to the foot portion. The vacuum cleaner further includes a calf pivotally attached to the fink and a suction source attached to one of the calf or link. The vacuum cleaner further includes a dirt collection system positioned in the calf for receiving dirt and debris. The vacuum cleaner yet further includes a thigh portion pivotally attached to an upper portion of the calf and a handle attached to an upper portion of the thigh. Rotating the calf about the link joint places the dirt separation system above and substantially parallel over the foot.
