ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Food bags for retort sterilization treatment wherein the body of the bag is formed of a flexible material supplied either in sheet form and having the ends joined by a longitudinal seam, or the flexible material is extruded as a tube and then expanded under air pressure. The inner layer of the flexible material must be formed of a material wherein the absorption of components of the material into the food at steriliza- tion temperatures falls within a prescribed minimum. The ends of the body of the bags are preferably flattened and sealed by a reversely folded film which fits over the ends and is thermally fused thereto.
