The food holder has two vertical plates, mounted on a base vertically and parallel to each other. This creates a gap between the plates where food is held. Knife guides with vertically extending guide slits are provided at both ends of the gap. The two vertical plates are connected to the base in a manner allowing their translational motion in directions which can change the gap size.Additionally, a centering mechanism insures the distance moved by each plate is equal.
