A high speed slicing machine feeds a plurality of food loaves along parallel loaf paths into a slicing station. The loaves are sliced by a knife blade. Independent loaf feed drives are provided and slices cut from one loaf may be thicker than slices cut from another. The machine may combine manual and automated food loaf loading mechanisms. The automated loaf loading mechanism has a sweep to push loaves onto the loaf paths. The loaf paths have load feed drives that move loaf grippers provided on the loaf paths. The grippers are moved from a home position toward the slicing station and back again. Each loaf feed drive also includes two short conveyors. The slicing station includes an arcuate knife blade and a drive that rotates the blade along a closed cutting path through a slicing range which intersects the ends of food loaves fed into the slicing station.
