- 1 - ABSTRACT "FOOTWEAR COMPONENT AND MANUFACTURE THEREOF" A reinforcing shank for a footwear sole component as well as a die part and press die suitable for producing the shank. The shank includes shank body of strip material having upper and lower faces. At least one strengthening rib portion extends longitudinally of the shank body, and is raised outwardly from the upper face so that an underlying groove is defined in the lower face. A series of corrugations extend at least substantially transversely of the rib portion and are spaced apart along the rib portion. The die part includes: holding means for mounting the die part in a die press apparatus, and a series of individual slip pieces packed together and held by the holding means. Working edge faces of the slip pieces present a die press surface for engaging a strip of material during a pressing operation. The slip pieces are individually shaped at the working edge faces and positioned relative to one another to provide the die press surface with a desired profile so that a pair of the die parts press strip material between them into a reinforcing shank.
