A footwear (10, 100, 200, 300) is provided including a sole (12) and an upper (14) where the sole (12) and the upper (14) delimit individual toe portions (26) configured to receive, retain, and allow independent articulation of corresponding individual toes of a foot inserted in the footwear and where the sole (12) includes an extension portion which extends upwardly around at least a portion the foot.
