Footwear and method of readying footwear by retaining a forward portion of a loop of an elastic cord in a retainer, spacing apart opposite sides of the loop with two spaced apart guides, passing a rear portion of the elastic cord through a flexible support to reach an adjuster, adjusting an amount of the elastic cord that may be under tension when worn by a wearer's foot with the adjuster, and pivoting the flexible support and portion of the elastic cord passing through the flexible support about the two guides between a position where the flexible support rests against a rear of the foot and a position where the flexible support rests against a top of the foot. The flexible support may be rotated about the portion of the elastic cord so that the adjuster does not contact the wearer's foot.
