A method is provided for determining the probable surname of a male from a sample of his tissue or DNA, wherein the haplotype of his sample is compared with a database, the database containing information which correlates Y chromosome haplotypes to given surnames.

Cette invention a trait à une méthode visant à déterminer le nom patronymique probable d'une personne de sexe masculin grâce à un échantillon tissulaire prélevé sur lui ou à son ADN. On compare, dans le cadre de cette invention, l'haplotype de ce prélèvement au contenu d'une base de données, celle-ci renfermant des informations permettant de mettre en corrélation des haplotypes de chromosomes Y avec des noms patronymiques donnés.
