TITLE FOREST TENT CATERPILLAR CONTROL INVENTORS Melvin D. Chisholm Pachagounder Palaniswamy Edward W. Underhill Warren F. Steck ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Populations of the forest tent caterpillar (Malacosoma disstria) can be controlled by reducing reproductive mating of the adult moths by diffusing, in the flight path of the male moths, vapors of at least one of the compounds 5Z,7E-dodecadienal, 5Z,7Z-dodecadienal and 7Z-dodecenal, in sufficient amounts to disrupt and confuse the male in locating the female moth. Selected combinations of these compounds gave optimal attraction to specific loci, e.g. to traps for monitoring purposes.
