La présente invention a pour objet un alliage inoxydable à base de fer présentant un effet dit de mémoire de forme total, consistant, après une déformation mécanique déterminée à froid, en une récupération de la forme initiale par échauffement, caractérisé en ce que sa composition pondérale est la suivante: 9 à 13% de chrome, 15 à 25% de manganèse, 3 à 6% de silicium, le reste étant du fer et des impuretés résiduelles résultant de la fusion des matières nécessaires à l'élaboration. Les proportions des éléments doivent satisfaire à la relation: 1,43 (%Si) + 1(%Cr) ~ 17. La présente invention a également pour objet un procédé d'élaboration d'un tel alliage.
