ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE Apparatus or method for forming an article from a prepared length of foam sheet material that is rolled up compressed inside a wrapper or label as a tube thereabout, continuous from sheet (12) is indexed through a tractor mechanism (22) through a sensing station (36) to a roll-up mechanism (40) of which foam confronting gripping surfaces are relatively movable to roll up and compress the severed lengths. Preferably, the foam articles are injected (34) with a useful preloading substance before being compressed in being rolled up.
