ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A hardened cement product is produced by hardening a cement composition in the presence of (i) water and (ii) at least one of (a) active alumina; (b) aluminum hydroxide; (c) amorphous silica; and (d) crystalline silica having a mean particle size below 50 microns optionally further in the presence of at least one of (iii) an alkali metal halide; an alkaline earth metal halide; an alkali carbonate; and water glass, component (iii) fuctioning as a catalyst. By the process of this invention the formation of efflorescence on the hardened cement products is prevented, and, further, a reduction in the reinforcing effect of additives having poor alkali resistance in the presence of an alkali can be also prevented.
