ABSTRACT A626 An improved topical pharmaceutical formulation for use in treating virus infections of the skin or mucosa containing 9-(2-hydroxyethoxymethyl)guanine (acyclovir) or a salt or ester thereof and which comprises a dispersed oil phase and a continuous aqueous phase containing therein water, at least 30% w/w of a water miscible polyhydric alcohol and solubilized acyclovir or salt or ester thereof. Such a formulation has better stability and is more efficacious. GRHH/DD/A626/11th June, 1981.
