The present invention provides a method of, computer programs for and apparatus adapted to operate a communications network to generate data defining a forwarding tree for the transmission of messages in said network, said method comprising: a) storing data associating each of the nodes of said network with at least one of N levels of a hierarchy, where N is an integer greater than one; b) operating each of the nodes in each of the first to (N- 1)th levels to periodically send a join message to one of the nodes in a superior level in said hierarchy; c) in response to the receipt of a join message at a node, storing tree-defining data indicating that the sender of said join message is a member of a group of descendant nodes for which said receiving node is an ancestor node; whereby said tree-defining data so stored defines said forwarding tree.
La présente invention concerne un procédé, des programmes informatiques et un appareil adaptés pour exploiter un réseau de communication afin de générer des données définissant un arbre de retransmission pour la transmission de messages dans ledit réseau, ledit procédé consistant a) à stocker des données associant chacun des noeuds dudit réseau à au moins un des N niveaux d'une hiérarchie, N étant un entier supérieur à un; b) à exploiter chacun des noeuds dans chacun des niveaux du premier niveau au niveau (N-1) pour envoyer périodiquement un message de jointure à un des noeuds d'un niveau supérieur de ladite hiérarchie; c) en réponse à la réception d'un message de jointure dans un noeud, à stocker des données définissant un arbre indiquant que l'expéditeur dudit message de jointure est un membre d'un groupe de noeuds descendants pour lesquels le noeud de réception est un noeud ancêtre, les données définissant l'arbre ainsi stockées définissant l'arbre de retransmission.
