ABSTRACT Disclosed are extraordinarily soluble agaroid (preferably agarose or agar) compositions which may be: (a) irregular microparticles with high surface area; (b) a microporous matrix; (c) suspended or dissolved in a glycol at room temperature; (d) suspended in a water- miscible agaroid non-solvent; (e) dispersed within a three-dimensional non-agaroid matrix; (f) a sintered mot; (g) an encapsulating shell around another substance; (h) converted into a conventionally soluble agaroid; or (i) a microparticle converted into a cross- linked agaroid. Also disclosed are methods for preparation of these compositions.
