ABSTRACT As an aqueous liquid is pumped into a well bore penetrating n subterranean formation a galactomannan gum, a buffer which promotes an initial acidic pH in the liquid, a borate ion releasing compound, a compound which functions to shift the pH of the liquid to the basic side after a certain short period of time and from about 0.5 to about 95 percent by volume of oil are dispersed into the liquid. The resulting viscous oil-in-aqueous liquid emulsion is employed to fracture a subterranean formation, for example, to stimulate the flow of fluids therefrom.
