ABSTRACT A frame assembly for a chair includes a base member, a seat support member and a backrest member. The front end of the seat support member is pivotally mounted on the front end of the base member a seat suspension spring is provided for the purposes of urging the seat support member to its elevated position. The seat suspension spring is mounted at a point spaced a substantial distance from the pivotal connection between the base and the seat support. Preferably, the suspension spring is a compression spring mounted rearwardly of and extending longitudinally of the backrest member so as to enjoy a substantial mechanical advantage.
