The invention relates to a Francis wheel comprising a ceiling, a belt and blades (2) which extend between the ceiling and the belt. The value of the angle (.beta.¿24?) between the linear speed (U, D¿224?) of a blade (2) and the median (25, ?¿224?) of said blade (2) at the trailing edge thereof, close to the point (224) at which the blade (2) is attached to the belt, is between 20 and 25·. In this way, the machine performs satisfactorily while the equivalent power thereof under a heavy load can be increased.
