There is described a fraud detection system for use with a communications net- work, the network including a billing system comprising a database of customer account information and of account-associated call logging information including called num- bers, each customer account comprising e cus- tomer name and address information and a settable indicator which when set indicates that the account is a debt account having a predetermined debt status the fraud detection system comprising first means responsive to a debt account for accessing in use, the data- base for selecting a customer account, for obtaining a group of called numbers asso- ciated with the debt account and a group of called numbers associated with the se- lected customer account, for comparing the respectively obtained groups and, if the de- gree of similarity of the calling characteris- tics of the two customer accounts meets a predetermined criterion, providing an indi- cation that the selected customer account is a probable fraudulent-application account.
L'invention se rapporte à un système de détection de fraude utilisé dans un réseau de communications, le réseau comportant un système de facturation comprenant une base de données renfermant des informations sur les comptes clients, et des informations sur l'enregistrement des appels associés aux comptes, et notamment relatives aux numéros appelés. Chaque compte client comporte des informations sur le nom et l'adresse du client et un indicateur réglable qui, lorsqu'il est réglé, indique que le compte est un compte débiteur présentant un état débiteur prédéterminé. Le système de détection de fraude comporte un premier élément réagissant à un compte débiteur, qui permet d'accéder, lors de l'utilisation, à la base de données en vue de sélectionner un compte client, d'obtenir un groupe de numéros appelés associés au compte débiteur, et un groupe de numéros appelés associés au compte client sélectionné, de comparer les groupes respectivement obtenus et, si le degré de similarité des caractéristiques d'appel de deux comptes clients correspondent à un critère prédéterminé, d'indiquer que le compte client sélectionné est un compte présentant une probabilité d'intervention frauduleuse.
