ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A free-cutting steel having a high fatigue strength which consists essentially of 0.30-0.50% C, 0.10-0.50% Si, 0.50-1.00% Mn, 0.04-0.12% S, 0.05-0.20% V, 0.005-0.018% Al, 0.05-0.30% Pb, and 0.001-0.006% Ca by weight, and as the remainder, Fe and inevitable impurities. It may addi- tionally contain 0.50% or less of Cr.
