A martensitic stainless steel alloy having a good combination of machinability, hardness capability, and corrosion resistance is disclosed, having the composition shown in Table 1, in approximate weight percent. In particular, this alloy has a hardness capability of at least about 32 HRC and good machinability in single-point turning, form-tool turning and drilling at a wide range of hardnesses including between about 96 HRB to 38 HRC.
