2066459 9105428 PCTABS00004 A multi console or remote unit non-integrated message handling system, particularly adapted to be a message taking and alerting system for use in conjunction with a local telephone network such as is found in many businesses, the network having a plurality of individual telephones served by at least one central operator to receive incoming messages and to service unanswered telephone calls. The system has a central unit or station which is under the control of the central operator. The consoles or remote units are connected to the central unit or station via a data transmission link. In one embodiment the link is performing through repeater units wired to the central unit and performing wireless communication with the remote units. In another embodiment, the central station is directly connected to the consoles. The system may include a print out facility, and therefore may be adapted to record and diarize records of calls made and messages passed between the central operator and the various users and messages passed between users.
