Disclosed are a conveying roll and a conveying section comprising a conveying roll. The conveying roll comprises a covering element (20), a bearing (30), and a braking mechanism (50). The bearing (30) and the covering element (20) are interconnected such that the covering element (20) can be mounted on a bearing point (40) via the bearing (30) in such a way that the conveying roll can be twisted relative to the bearing point (40) about a certain axis of rotation. The braking mechanism (50) is kinematically provided between the bearing point (40) and the covering element (20) and is designed such that it can become more difficult to twist the covering element relative to the bearing point about the axis of rotation in accordance with the relative rotational speed between the covering element (20) and the bearing point (40). The inventive conveying roll is characterized by an impeding device (60) which is disposed between the bearing point (40) and the covering element (20) at a point in the braking train of the braking mechanism and allows or prevents the braking mechanism to have or from having a braking effect in accordance with a direction of rotation of the covering element relative to the bearing point (40).
