A freight transportation container can accept standard-sized pallets and is suitable for the transportation by land, sea, or air. The size and construction of the container permits the loading and removal of freight by a conventional fork lift truck, and allows placement of the container in standard-sized trucks and aircraft. Lockdown lips formed on the bottom of the container secure the container to the floors of trucks and aircraft. The freight container also is part of a system and method for transportation whereby the freight can be loaded, inventoried, locked, and sealed at a customer's premise, and remain under the custody of one entity throughout shipment of the freight to the consignee. An empty freight container can be delivered to a customer's premise on a truck having a dab and removable trailer, so that the container and trailer can remain there for loading, and then later be picked up by the cab and taken to holding areas, other trucks, ships, aircraft, or directly to the consignee. Transactional information regarding the freight and destination is stored in a computer, allowing a central system to track the freight and generate appropriate business and customer documentation.

La dimension et la structure du conteneur permet de charger et de décharger les marchandises au moyen d'un chariot élévateur à fourche conventionnel, et de placer les conteneurs dans des camions et des avions de taille standard. Des becs à tourner et pousser permettent de fixer le conteneur au sol des camions et des avions. Ce conteneur fait en outre partie d'un système et procédé de transport dans lequel les marchandises peuvent êtres chargées, inventoriées, enfermées et scellées sur place chez le client et rester sous la garde d'une seule entité pendant toute la durée du transport des marchandises jusqu'au destinataire. Un conteneur vide peut être livré chez le client sur un camion comportant un tracteur et une remorque détachable de manière que le conteneur et la remorque puissent rester sur place pour être chargés puis être recherchés plus tard par le tracteur pour être acheminés vers des lieux d'entreposage, d'autres camions, navires ou avions ou directement jusqu'aux destinataires. L'information transactionnelle relative au transport et à la destination des marchandises est mémorisée dans un ordinateur, ce qui permet à un système central de suivre les déplacements des marchandises et de produite une documentation adéquate pour le commerce et les clients.
