A slackless drawbar assembly connecting adjacent ends of a pair of freight cars together. Such assembly includes a first pair of vertically disposable rear draft stop members and a first pair of radially opposed front draft stop members engageable with and securable to respective ones of a pair of side wall portions of a center sill member disposed on a first car. Each of such first pair of rear and front draft stops include a flat and respectively facing surface portion formed thereon. Additionally, each flat surface portion on at least one of such first pair of rear and front draft stops include a taper. There is a drawbar member provided which has a predetermined length. A first aperture is formed through this drawbar adjacent a first end thereof. There is a first ball member provided which has at least a portion thereof disposed in such first aperture. A first race assembly is secured to such drawbar adjacent such first aperture. Such first race assembly has an inner surface thereof surrounding such at least a portion of the first ball. A first pair of shaft members extend outwardly from opposed sides of such first ball. Each of such first pair of shafts includes opposed flat surface portions which are wedge shaped and which engage respective ones of such flat and respectively facing surface portions on each of such pair of rear and front draft stops. Finally, a first securing means is provided which engages with such center sill portion of such first car and a bottom surface of each of such shafts for securing the assembly within such center sill in a vertical direction.

L'invention concerne une barre de traction sans jeu reliant les extrémités adjacentes de deux wagons de marchandises et comprenant une première paire de butées arrière verticaux et une première paire de butées avant radialement opposées pouvant être fixées à deux parois latérales d'un longeron central du châssis d'un premier wagon. Chacune d'au moins une de ces paires de butées avant et arrière présente une surface plate et inclinée. Il est prévu une barre de traction de longueur prédéterminée présentant un premier orifice à proximité de sa première extrémité, orifice dans lequel se loge au moins en partie une rotule entourée au moins en partie par une bague fixée à ladite barre à proximité dudit orifice. Une première paire d'axes se prolongent vers l'extérieur à partir des faces radialement opposées de la rotule. Chacun de ces axes comprend au moins une partie en forme de coin qui prennent appui sur les surfaces opposées des butées arrière et avant correspondant. Enfin, un premier moyen de fixation appuyé à la fois contre le longeron central et la face inférieure des axes précités assure le maintien en place de la barre de traction à l'intérieur dudit longeron dans une position verticale.
