ABSTRACT This invention relates to a frequency synthesizer which switches oscillation frequency of a voltage controlled oscillator by setting a division ratio at a variable ratio divider provided in a feedback path of a phase locked loop, and which directly inputs a steering voltage in the voltage controlled oscillator at the frequency switching. This invention is characterized in that the synthesizer inputs the voltage controlled oscillator a steering voltage which can compensate non-linearity to reset the divider so as to reduce the frequency errors and phase errors after switching to thereby enable high speed frequency switching.
