-8- Abstract Frequency Synthesizer Frequency synthesizers for generating different channel spacings with short transient recovery times are commonly based on the analysis principle (mixer). This requires several phase-locked loops and expensive filters. Ambiguities are unavoidable. With a small channel spacing, the switching speed is limited by the transient recovery time of the phase-locked loop. The frequency synthesizer according to the invention uses only two phase-locked Loops (PLL1, PLL2) which both have an operating frequency (f1, fz) substantially greater than the channel spacing. The frequencies of the phase locked loops are derived from a common reference frequency (fref). By varying the division ratios of the frequency dividers (D1 ... D4) provided in the synthesizer, different channel spacings and different operating frequencies can be set. The reference frequency is derived from a crystal-controlled, temperature-compensated oscillator. (Fig. 1)
