FRICTION CONTACT TONING MEANS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A frictional contact toning apparatus for a magnetic imaging system is disclosed. Magnetic toner from a reservoir is deposited on a donor surface forming the top layer of a rotating carriage cylinder. The toner laden donor surface is brought into frictional contact with a moving image web surface having a latent magnetic image formed thereon. The rotation of the donor surface is faster than the velocity of the image web surface and in the same direction which causes a frictional slippage between the two surfaces. Full and even development of the latent magnetic image is produced by an excess of toner that forms at the toning nip and the scrubbing action of the rotating donor surface.
