A friction damping system for use in a system having at least one of a pair of sliding elements. The friction damping system has a friction producing element (44) positioned between the sliding elements (42, 48) such that at least one of the sliding elements rubs against the friction producing element to generate friction and thereby damp the relative sliding movement of the sliding elements. The friction producing element may be provided in a housing that is fixed to one of the sliding elements with the friction producing element facing and contacting the other sliding element. The friction damping system may further be designed to provide directional sensitivity such that damping of movement of the sliding elements in a first direction is greater than damping of movement in a second direction opposite the first direction. Such directional sensitivity may be accomplished by angling one of the surfaces (150) against which the friction producing element moves during sliding movement of the sliding elements.

L'invention concerne un dispositif amortisseur à frottement pour un système qui a au moins une paire d'éléments de glissement. Le dispositif comporte un élément de frottement (44) placé entre les éléments de glissement (42, 48), de sorte qu'au moins un des ces éléments frotte contre l'élément de frottement pour engendrer un frottement qui amortit le mouvement coulissant relatif des éléments de glissement. L'élément de frottement peut être présenté dans un logement, fixe par rapport à l'un des éléments de glissement, mais faisant face à l'autre élément de glissement et en contact avec lui. On peut aussi faire en sorte que le dispositif assure une sensibilité directionnelle pour que l'amortissement du mouvement des éléments de glissement dans une première direction soit plus important que l'amortissement du mouvement dans une seconde direction opposée à la première. La sensibilité en question peut être obtenue par inclinaison de l'une des surfaces (150) contre laquelle l'élément de frottement se déplace durant le mouvement coulissant des éléments de glissement.
