A friction-type draft gear assembly (10) includes a housing (12) having an open front end (50) and a partially closed rear end (14) with a first and second rear portions (16, 18) and a pair of ledge members (20) for enabling the draft gear assembly to fit into a draft gear pocket (108). A first rear portion is adapted to receive a compressible cushioning element (80) with a seating arrangement abutting one end thereof. A removable bottom wall (22) is attachable either to the first or second rear portions for enabling installation of the compressible cushioning element. The open front end is adapted to receive a friction cushioning means (90) which has a spring release mechanism for continuously urging the friction cushioning means outwardly from the compressible cushioning element thereby releasing such friction cushioning means after compression of such draft gear assembly. The open front end is configured for direct attachment to a coupler with a coupler key.

L'invention concerne un ensemble (10) organe de traction du type à friction qui comprend un corps (12) comportant une extrémité avant (50) ouverte et une extrémité arrière (14) partiellement fermée, ainsi qu'une première et une deuxième partie arrière (16, 18) et deux éléments rebord (20) permettant d'insérer l'ensemble organe de traction dans une enveloppe (108) d'organe de traction. Une première partie arrière est conçue pour recevoir un élément d'amortissement (80) compressible, un système d'appui venant buter contre une extrémité de celui-ci. Une paroi (22) inférieure amovible pouvant être fixée à la première ou à la deuxième partie arrière permet d'installer l'élément d'amortissement compressible. L'extrémité avant ouverte est conçue pour recevoir des moyens d'amortissement (90) à friction comportant un mécanisme de libération à ressort qui sollicite en continu les moyens d'amortissement vers l'extérieur à partir de l'élément d'amortissement compressible, de manière à libérer lesdits moyens d'amortissement après compression de l'ensemble organe de traction. L'extrémité avant ouverte est conçue pour être fixée directement à un organe d'attelage pourvu d'une clavette d'attelage.
