FRICTION MATERIAL REINFORCED WITH STEEL AND CELLULOSE FIBERS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An asbestos free organic base friction material for use as a friction lining of a brake. A combination of fibers selected from a group consisting of steel, cellulose, glass mineral and rayon fibers and a thermosetting resin binder are combined with cashew nut particles, elastomeric modifiers and inorganic modifiers to produce an organic base friction material having a substantial stable coefficient of friction over the normal operating range of the brake.
