An independent front suspension for a vehicle body particularly buses has a longitudinally extending square rubber torque spring which includes a tube axially rotatable within a sheath, a frame assembly fixed to the sheath and a yoke secured to the frame assembly meeting a vertically extending arm at a first joint, an upper control arm at a second joint meets the vertically extending arm, a steerable wheel mounting spindle is also mounted to the vertical arm, rubber torque bushings secure the inner end of the upper control arm to the vehicle body. The square rubber torque spring is tensioned by lever arms coupled to hexagonal blocks on each end of the central tube through the spring. When required, the lever arms can be lifted off their hexagonal blocks and rotated axially of the central tube and then replaced on their blocks in the new position. This allows further spring use when the lever arms have reached the limit in use from fatigue in the spring. An improved bolt and bushing assembly at the joint between the yoke and the vertical arm allows tightening of the bolt by interaction between the bolt, a nut and a thrust bushing which contacts the vertical arm. Bearing bushings are received on the bolt which have direct lubricant access thereto from transverse grease nipples mounted in the yoke. The suspension also includes a double shock absorber mounting arrangement.
