There is provided a frost protection system for a water supply system including a pump having a suction inlet and an outlet for pressurized water. The outlet of said pump has a pressure sensing switch operatively connected thereto for turning the pump on and off and a pressure tank for holding a supply of water under pressure. An elongated suction line is connected to the suction inlet of said pump adapted to lead into a source of water, the suction line being exposed to freezing temperatures. The frost protection system includes a control means and first means responsive to said control means for draining the suction line after the pump has been shut off by said pressure switch to prevent freezing thereof. A second means responsive to said control means is provided for filling the suction line and repriming the system just before the pump is turned on by said pressure switch. Several modifications are disclosed including submersible pump applications, use of pressurized air to complete drainage, time delays in the controls etc.
