ABSTRACT A fuel or lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount of a fuel or lubricating oil and a minor amount of a compound of formula:- Image (I) wherin each R represents the same or different C1 to C6 alkyl group, each R1 represents the same or diffrent C2 to C6 alkylene group and X is oxygen or sulphur. This compound decreases the octane requirement increase effect exhibited by internal combustion engines.
