ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A boiling water reactor fuel assembly comprising a plurality of vertical fuel rods, a flow channel having a substantially square cross-section, upper support means and lower support means for said fuel rods, a plurality of spacer grid devices arranged between the upper and the lower support means, each of the spacer grid devices posi- tioning in the flow channel all fuel rods belonging to the fuel assembly. Each of the spacer grid devices comprises four separate spacer grids, and each spacer grid comprises a plurality of spacer grid cells, all spacer grid cells belonging to the spacer grid being disposed at one and the same level. Each spacer grid cell is dimensioned for receiving one fuel rod only, the total number of spacer grid cells in each of the spacer grids being smaller than half the number of fuel rods belonging to the assembly. Spacer grids belonging to one and the same spacer grid device are disposed at at least two different levels and with each spacer grid at a corresponding corner of said flow channel.
