ABSTRACT "Fuel briquettes" A fuel briquette which is obtainable by briquetting a mixture of substantially solid fuel, polyvinyl alcohol and calcium oxide and/or magnesium oxide in the presence of at least 1.0%, by weight, of water is disclosed. Such briquettes are characterised by high initial crush resistance, i.e. the solidity shortly after the briquetting process, by high abrasion resistance, easy handling and, if anthracite was used as the substantially solid fuel, by a carbon tar index of less than 50. The waste gases emitted during burning of these briquettes have a distinctly reduced SO2 content.
