A system and method for producing electricity with a fuel cell power system. The power system includes an assembly of fuel cell stacks (220) that operate at different temperatures, which vary between two or more of the fuel cell stacks. The fuel cell stack can have multiple temperature regions (240, 242, 244) formed axially along the stack, or a plurality of spatially separated fuel cell stacks can be employed to heat a reactant from an input temperature to a desired temperature. The fuel cell stacks have operating temperatures in the range between about 20 ~C and about 2000 ~C.

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé de production d'électricité au moyen d'un système d'alimentation à piles à combustible. Le système d'alimentation comprend un ensemble d'empilements (220) de piles à combustible qui fonctionnent à des températures différentes. Les températures entre deux empilements ou plus varient. L'empilement de piles à combustible peut posséder de multiples zones (240, 242, 244) à températures différentes, formées dans l'axe de l'empilement. Plusieurs empilements espacés de piles à combustible peuvent aussi être utilisées pour chauffer un réactif d'une température d'entrée à la température voulue. Les empilements de piles à combustible ont des températures de fonctionnement allant d'environ 20 ·C à environ 2000 ·C.
