A fuel-fired heating appliance, representatively a gas-fired water heater, has a combustion chamber with an outer wall portion defined by a perforated flame arrestor plate having specially configured louvered combustion air intake openings through which combustion air is flowed into the combustion chamber. The louvered openings function to cause the entering combustion air to undergo directional changes as it inwardly traverses the openings and impart turbulence to the air entering the combustion chamber in a manner substantially inhibiting foreign matter blockage of the plate openings, providing an even combustion air inflow across the perforated plate area, and providing the plate with improved operational temperature uniformity along its sides.
L'invention concerne un appareil de chauffage domestique à combustible , notamment un chauffe- eau à gaz, qui comprend une chambre de combustion dotée d'une paroi externe définie par une plaque pare-flamme perforée ayant des orifices d'entrée d'air comburant à ailettes spécialement configurée par lesquels l'air comburant circule dans la chambre de combustion. Les ouvertures à volets font subir à l'air comburant d'entrée des modifications directionnelles à mesure qu'il passe par les ouvertures et confèrent de la turbulence à l'air entrant dans la chambre de combustion de manière à inhiber sensiblement toute matière étrangère susceptible de bloquer les ouvertures de la plaque, ce qui assure un courant d'air comburant à travers la zone de la plaque perforée et améliore l'uniformité de la température de régime de la plaque sur ses côtés.
